Fun Outdoor or Indoor Winter Activities for Kids in the Poconos, PA

Here in the Poconos, you can find fun winter activities for your kids, both outdoors and inside. When you are looking for outdoor winter activities for your kids, we have some of the finest skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing here in the Poconos. Even if Mother Nature has not graced us with her white blanket, as long as it is cold the ski resorts make their own blanket of snow, not nearly as beautiful, but still great for these activities.

Knowing that kids can be impatient about waiting in line, I like taking my son to Alpine Mountain for snow tubing, skiing, or snowboarding. I have taken him to the other ski resorts in the Poconos but the waiting in line at the ski lift or the snow tubing line soon proved to take up most of the day. When you have to spend more time in line than on the slopes the day quickly becomes colder and less enjoyable.

Alpine Mountain, Poconos

Alpine Mountain is smaller than the other Pocono ski resorts but so are the lines. Alpine has separate lifts and trails for the seasoned skier or snowboarder and smaller ones for beginners. At the snow tubing area, there is always a great outdoor bonfire going where you can stop and warm up, before jumping in your tube for your ride back up the mountain so you can take another exciting slide down.

If you do not want to spend the day outdoors there is a lounge with scenic views of both ski lifts and all of the slopes. Alpine Mountain has special kids’ packages where they can learn to ski or snowboard, one of these is the four-week program with rentals at a cost of $260.00. This is only one example of a fun winter activity you can find here in the Poconos for your kids.

If your children are not fond of outdoor winter activities, there are also fun indoor things to do when you live in or visit the Poconos. Big Wheel Roller Rink located in Stroudsburg Pa is a terrific way to spend the day or night. At Big Wheel, you can rent either quads or in-line roller skates for just a few dollars more than the entry price of $7.75. If you come across the “Poconos Where to Book” you will even find a coupon that offers a buy one get one admission free.

I have been taking my son there since he was about 5 years old, he loved skating so much that he even joined their roller hockey team. When I no longer wanted to skate, I would sit at the snack bar, which has tables surrounding the skating area. There is a smaller ring in the back with plenty of tables, for holding a private birthday party or other events. Skating is a great winter activity without the cold.

Indoor Go Karting

S S; Speedways Indoor Go-Karts is another fun winter activity in the Poconos for kids of all ages. Located a short distance off Route 80, the speedway is easy to get to, and has great indoor winter activity. You do need to be at least 54 inches tall to get a driver’s license and drive the go-karts. The license that everyone must have costs only $5.00 and it will thrill your kids, they have their picture taken and put on a hard plastic license, just like a real one.

The “Rookie Special” for first-time riders costs $30.00, this includes the license plus five races around the track. If you don’t want to drive you can watch the go-karts from behind the glass as you enjoy something from the snack bar. In between rides, you and your kids can enjoy air hockey, a game of pool, or video games.

These are only a few examples of fun winter activities to do with your kids in the Poconos. There are plenty of free things you can do as well, go sledding on the hills in Stroudsburg Pa, or take a great winter hike on one of the many trails that follow the Broad Head Creek, try cross country skiing or learn how to use snowshoes. Outdoors or inside, there are plenty of fun winter activities for kids in the Poconos, Pa.
